Owly

I hear wings. Flapping around the eaves and flapping through the trees. I hear leaves rustling in the breeze (that is one of my favourite sounds). Harder to hear because they are very light, but every now and then raindrops on the window. From the kitchen I hear the kettle singing ... and soon I hope to hear the pouring of boiling water and the clink-clink of teaspoons and cups.

Thank you so much to everyone who asked about my owl painting (I never knew owls were so popular :)). It is now available as print in my on-line shop

St. Elmo's fire

A weather phenomenon.
A bright blue or violet glow, appearing like fire sometimes, from tall, sharply pointed structures such as masts. Often accompanying the glow is a hissing or buzzing sound.
Some sailors saw the glow as an unlucky sign; it interfered with compass readings because of the electricity in the air. Others took it as a sign of the presence of St. Erasmus's (Elmo's) protection, the patron saint of sailors.

What must it be like to be at sea today? Stormy gale warnings forecast for this weekend.

Evening in a Summer Garden

Wood pigeons cooing their lullabyes. Robins flying quietly home back into the trees.
Sounds carry from a neighbour's nearby garden; glasses clinking and laughter.
Above the wall, old-fashioned, full, pink roses seem to glow in the dim, dusky, half-light of a long Summer twilight.
A wooden seat for dreaming and enjoying the night time vespers.

Dreaming on a sunny Spanish island

Holiday sounds. Waves tumbling on the shore. Wind moving through the palm tree leaves. Scents of hisbiscus flowers and sea soaked breeze.

Elevenses on a sunny Spanish island

Croissant, café con leche every morning surrounded by bougainvillea and hisbiscus. Every morning the hisbiscus opening more and more to the sun.

Breakfast on a sunny Spanish Island

Pieces of strawberry in creamy yogurt, bits of orange in juice. Papery petals, by the name of bougainvillea, saturated colours of cerise, violet, orange, scarlet.

Breezes and Hawthorns

It is lovely to have breezes again after a month of stillness. Playing with my hair, whispering and sighing through the leaves.

Happy movement and gentle sound - welcome back mild south-westerlies!

The seasons send their messages

Hello. How are you?
Welcome to my little weather journal.
In Ireland we love to talk about the weather. Here, there are big grey clouds piling up in the blue sky and the wind is getting up, but the birds are still chirping messages of Spring.

Hoping the weather stays good for your weekend wherever you are.
