Friday in June miscellany

It rained all day today. But it was a nice, cosy soundtrack whilst painting at my table. The birds remembered, though the weather forgot, that it was June and chirped through the rain. Thinking about the weather outside today, remembering the weather last friday on a sunny evening walk during a weekend trip to the west.....

Collecting flowers from along the roadside. I hope my aunt wont mind me putting them in a jar on her kitchen table.

Sun beginning to set. The little triangle in the distance is Croagh Patrick, 60km away in the distance, 764metres high (a big triangle really!).

This song has me bopping in my chair while painting, with the rain for company :)

The year's at the Spring

The first day of Spring, though nobody has told the weather. Wintry colours and sounds all around. Splashing through puddles of Burnt Umber and Paynes Grey. Wild wind painting crimson and red onto cheeks, each face a different shade. The wind also catching and carrying voices here and there to who knows where. Bell tinkling over coffee shop door. Cup of coffee waiting to warm up cold fingers again while raindrops and wind continue their chorus on the window.

At my desk, different colours to those outdoors, wishes for Spring: pinks, reds, lilacs, and drops of Spring shower blues.

Hints and hopes of Spring, goodbye to January, hello to February :)

Bye bye January sky

January brought 31 skies. Tints of paynes grey, burnt umber and ultramarine blue. Many shades of greys and whites, sending watery tones of drizzle, downpours and sleet. Occasionally a glimpse of brightness to come on the clearing western evening skies. February is on the doorstep. What colours will she bring?

Fluich agus scamallach. Wet and cloudy.

Listening to the aimsir (weather in Irish) on the radio. The words fluich agus scamallach mentioned more than a few times. And the same squelchy sounding words heard for the weather forecast for the coming weekend. Fluich agus scamallach walking - with a yellow umbrella - a wish for sunshine!

Rain painting, painting rain

Many walks this July with raincoat always on and hood always up. Feet getting sprinkled with raindrops walking through tall grasses. Ears attuned to sounds of millions of drops falling through leaves. For the eyes, a palette of greys, greens and hay coloured grasses. Soft tones because the sun is hiding.

Rain Music

Rain is the artist today. Painting in shades of soft green and grey.

Steady tapping rhythm of millions of tiny drops dripping down through the leaves of a forest.
Softer and lighter sounds, rain carried on the wind in an open field of long grass.

Expanding dimples in the puddles.

Gaoth, wind, viento, vent

It has been a windy May. Yesterday the wind led the rain in a merry dance. I stood under a tree til it passed, grateful for it's green dry shelter, watching them dance. Sunny today, so the wind chases shadows across the grass and the trees toss their arms about in laughter.
